Controlling Aggression
I'm having a hard time controlling my aggression during free sparring. I'm naturally a competitive person and sometimes the moment will get the best of me. I've tried to spar defensively but my counter attacks are just as aggressive. I really like my sparring partners and I don't want to hurt anyone. In the spirit of the tenets of Taekwon-Do, does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do?

Try thinking of your sparring like a game, or a pattern. If you're thinking of it as a game, change your sparring to fit the person you are sparring against. Make it your goal to only go as hard as the person you're sparring. You lose the game if you go too hard. If you think of it like a pattern, then only do what is in your pattern- which you can make not going too hard. Also, try deciding to only use certain attacking techniques so you can practice them. Combinations work well, too. So decide to do something like block, turning kick, side kick, or block, diagonal kick, front kick. If someone goes hard, though, just spar like you normally would- just try to think of scoring points. This is the part I have trouble with!
